After years of anticipation, it’s finally official, Costa Coffee Hall Green will open its doors on Saturday, 18th October 2025. The final preparations are underway, and the transformation of the former Horseshoe Pub into a modern Costa Coffee Drive-Thru is almost complete.
What was once a beloved local pub that closed in 2020 has now been reborn as a fresh new destination for Hall Green. The familiar building, once home to laughter and community gatherings, has been carefully restored and reimagined for a new chapter, one filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee.
We’re thrilled to see this long-awaited development reach its final stage, right across the road from Cambrai Court. The finishing touches are being made inside and out, and it won’t be long before locals and office tenants alike can enjoy their first coffee in this beautifully transformed space.
Now, as the countdown begins, we look back at how this transformation took shape.

The historic Horseshoe pub, a landmark dating back to the 19th century, is getting a modern facelift. This establishment, which once operated as a Wacky Warehouse, had sadly closed its doors shortly before the onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020. But, as they say, when one door closes, another opens. The former pub is now on a transformative journey to become a hotspot for coffee lovers and grocery shoppers alike.
Following the approval of redevelopment plans, the old Horseshoe pub in Hall Green will soon house a Costa drive-thru and a Farmfoods supermarket. The initial proposal from the owners, City Estates, was to repurpose the entire area. However, a revised plan sought to preserve the main building of the Horseshoe, with only the banqueting suite being demolished. The community saw this plan come to fruition in April.
Construction activities commenced in June, and as anyone passing by Stratford Road can attest, the progress is evident. The former car park has been boarded up, and the banqueting suite's remnants are no longer visible. Workers are bustling about, bringing the vision to life.
In addition to the much-anticipated Costa Coffee drive-thru, the site will soon welcome a Farmfoods supermarket, bringing even more shopping convenience right across from Cambrai Court. This new addition joins the existing range of local supermarkets, including Waitrose, Tesco, and Aldi, all within just a few minutes of our offices.
Whether you need to pick up essentials on your way home or grab a quick lunch break snack, Farmfoods will make daily errands even easier, enhancing the area for Hall Green residents and Cambrai Court tenants alike.
While Costa Coffee has remained tight-lipped about the exact opening date, their recent statement has stirred excitement among local residents and businesses. A spokesperson for the brand shared with BirminghamLive, "We can confirm that work has begun on a brand-new Costa Coffee Drive-Thru store on Stratford Road in Hall Green. We’re looking forward to being a part of the local community and can’t wait to share more details soon.”
For all our Cambrai Court businesses, this is not just about coffee. It's about convenience, fostering community connections, and having a space where you can discuss ideas over a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Almost a year on, and neither the Costa nor the supermarket next to it are not open, but a lot of progress has been made. It's good to see that the Horseshoe pub has not been torn down. Instead, much of the building has been refurbished with some extension work to accomodate the new Coffee Shop. The block paving has been laid and earthworks outside the front of the building are in place for upgrades to the pavement and utilities.

The entrance to the Costa and Farmfoods supermarket will be at the rear of the site, next to the entrance for Hall Green's Kwik-Fit. From here, you can see the completed Farmfoods building, albeit an empty shell at the time of writing, and the car park taking shape. Shrubs are also being planted, and more block paving is now visible.
We couldn't find any update on when the Costa and Farmfoods will open to the public, but the progress on the buildings suggests either the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.

A year after our last update, the Costa Coffee is finally almost ready. The pictures show the last stages of preperation before the opening on the weekend.
